Belmont Sorghum

Sorghum is a tall semi-tropical, non cob producing plant which will provide cover throughout the shooting season. Sorghum grows best in warm, sunny conditions and is therefore better suited to the more southerly regions of the UK. Sorghum has been used successfully as a straight stand where maize cannot be used due to rat problems however it is more often used as a windbreak on exposed sides of blocks of maize and as flushing strips.

B52 Dwarf Sorghum
This is the best dwarf sorghum to enter the UK.
  • It has the thickest, stiffest stems.
  • A very reliable cover crop especially good when used as flushing cover adjacent to Maize.
  • Keeps maize crops warm and draft free.
  • Will stand well in exposed locations until the end of the season.
  • Do not plant too early wait until the soil temperature has reached constant 15 degrees - usually early June.
  • Contact Belmont to discuss the suitability of your site for sorghum.
